The Minnesota Primaries were held on Tuesday. Even in the time of COVID-19, citizens could still be found casting their votes in person, taking precautions such as wearing face masks, following guidelines taped to the floor, and remaining six feet apart from one another.
Minnesota US Senator Election
Tina Smith (DFL) came out on top with 460,894 votes, or 87.14% of the Democratic vote. The runners-up, in order, are:
• Paula Overby, 27,403 votes, 5.18%;
• Ahmad R. Hassan, 19,040 votes, 3.6%;
• Steve Carlson, 15,562 votes, 2.94%;
• Christopher Lovell Seymore, Sr., 5,995 votes, 1.13%;
Jason Lewis (GOP) takes the Republican vote with 180,263 votes, or 78.14%.
The runners-up, in order, are:
• Cynthia Gail, 16,576 votes, 7.19%;
• John L. Berman, 15,337 votes, 6.65%;
• Bob “Again” Carney Jr., 9,865 votes, 4.28%;
• James Reibestein, 8,661 votes, 3.75%;
U.S. Representative, District 6
Tom Emmer (GOP) won the Republican Primary with 30,117 votes, or 87.18% of the vote. Patrick Munro came in second with 4,428 votes, or 12.82%.
Tawnja Zahradka (DFL) ran unopposed, receiving 27,772 votes
MN State Representative, District 15B
Ron Thiessen, the sole Democratic candidate, ran unopposed, receiving 997 votes.
For the Republican candidates, Shane Mekeland won with 1,858 votes, or 72.16% of the vote. John Ulrick trailed behind with 717 votes, or 27.84% of the vote.
Absentee votes
By court order, absentee ballots were accepted until Friday and the results of those votes were not available at the writing of this article.
