Garbage can placement critical during storms

(Editor’s Note: The following article was derived from the Wright County website.)

Every year, the highway department’s plow drivers have incidents with garbage and recycling cans being placed in the roadway.

With significant snowfall expected throughout this week, the department would like to remind homeowners about the issues that can be created when garbage/recycling cans are placed too far into the road.

Ideally, cans should be placed at the end of a homeowner’s driveway, where the driveway meets the roadway, when they are placed for pickup. This also applies to paved shoulder roadways and in curb areas. This will help them clear snow in a timely fashion and limit the potential hazards created when the cans are placed too far out into the roadway.
