Election Is Tuesday!

 
The door-knocking and speeches will have ended, as will the advertisements and public appearances.
 
Come Tuesday, it will be the voters’ turn, as the polls will open for the General Election.
 
Then, the story be told.
 
Area residents will have a near-full slate of candidates to choose from - from local to state and national races.
 
Polls in most precincts open at 7 a.m. and run to 8 p.m.
 
So, here it goes.
 
4th Comm. District
 
Fourth District Incumbent Felix Schmiesing of Palmer is running unopposed for re-election to his seat.
 
Becker City Council
 
Five candidates are vying for two four-year seats on the city council. Incumbent Rick Hendrickson is running for his seat while Lori Keller is not. Challengers are former councilmember Lynette Brannan, Dennis Rzeszotarski, Dennis Carlson and Troy Cox.
 
Clear Lake City Council
 
Two candidates are vying for two four-year seats on the city council. Dale Powers and Kristin Brandt are in the mix. Incumbent Tim Goenner is running unopposed for mayor.
 
Clearwater City Council
 
For mayor, the lone candidate is Andrea Lawrence.
 
Two council seats are up for election with two candidates, Kris Crandall and Wayne Krutchen.
 
Becker School Board
 
Five persons are running for three four-year terms on the Becker Board of Education.
 
They include challengers Ryan Obermoller , Mike Steckelberg and Randy Bader and Incumbents Aaron Jurek and Mark Swanson.
 
St. Cloud School Board
 
Three seats are being challenged by Zachary Dorholt, Natalie Ringsmuth, Larry Hosch, Les Green, Peter Hamerlinck and Beth Schlangen.
 
Auditor-Treasurer
 
Longtime Incumbent Diane Arnold of Clear Lake is running against one candidate for election to the four-year county auditor-treasurer position.
 
Challenging her is Chris Van Hofwegen.
 
Sheriff Joel Brott, Attorney Kathleen Heaney and Recorder Michelle Ashe are running unopposed for their four-year seats.
 
Two persons are running unopposed for election to the County Soil and Water District Board. 
 
They are Kerry Saxton in Dist. 2 and Jason Selvig in Dist. 4.
 
Wright Co. Sheriff
 
With Sheriff Joe Hegerty’s impending retirement, a race to be his successor has occupied the attention of Wright County residents this year.
 
Finalists for the position, to be decided Tuesday, are Sean Deringer and Mike Katzmarek.
 
House Dist. 15B
 
Three challengers are running to replace Jim Newberger, who is running for senate. The challengers are Shane Mekeland (GOP), Myron Wilson (IND) and Karla Scapanski (DFL).
 
U. S. Senate Seats
 
Two-term Incumbent Amy Klobuchar, DFL, is running for re-election against Challenger Republican Jim Newberger of Becker.
 
Tina Smith, DFL, appointed in mid-term to fill the remainder of the Franken term, is being opposed by Challenger Karin Housley of Stillwater. Both elections are for six-year terms.
 
U.S. District 6
 
Tom Emmer (GOP) is vying to keep his seat with DFL candidate, Ian Todd running against him.
 
State Positions
 
With the retirement of Gov. Mark Dayton, DFLer Tim Walz and Republican Jeff Johnson are challenging for election to a new four-year seat.
 
Secretary of State candidates are John Howe, Republican, William Denney, Independent and Steve Simon, DFL.
 
State Auditor candidates are Pam Myhra (GOP), Julie Blaha (DFL), Michael Ford and Chris Dock.
 
Attorney General candidates are Keith Ellison, DFL and Doug Wardlow, Republican.
