The public is invited to visit Frank Kolbinger, Jr. Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, October 25 at 3:30 p.m. for a dedication ceremony honoring the namesake hero from World War II.
A plaque will be unveiled that summarizes Kolbinger’s incredible military service, as well as his commitment to the Becker community.
Kolbinger was part of the Allied Forces that stormed Utah beach in Normandy, and he later was seriously wounded near Pretot, France on July 3, 1944. Believing Frank had been killed in action, the US Army notified his parents back in Becker of his status and they in turn began making arrangements for a Memorial Service for their son.
Weeks later, Frank regained consciousness at a military hospital near Malvern in the United Kingdom and word trickled back to Becker that he was indeed alive, although seriously wounded.
Kolbinger would ultimately return to Becker, where he later worked for the Becker Post Office and became Postmaster.
Kolbinger’s four surviving daughters, as well as their families and other relatives, will be on hand to dedicate the plaque and celebrate the life of this amazing American Veteran.
