Last week Clearview Elementary students joined over a million and a half people celebrating National Farm to School Month by eating locally grown apples.
Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch Day was created to highlight farm to schools locally and regionally grown food across the Midwest. The fifth-annual event took place Oct. 11, with schools and other organizations across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio all crunching into fresh apples.
St. Cloud District 742 partnered with Collegeville Orchards in St. Joseph to provide farm-fresh apples to all the schools in the district during September, October and November. Fifty cases of apples will be delivered to the district each week during the three-month period.
Clearview students munched on Honeycrisp, Haroldson and Sweet Tango varieties from the orchard during the Great Apple Crunch. The students received a sticker along with their apples.
