Clear Lake Twp. Supervisor Gary Gray points out areas of potential annexation to the rest of the board during the township’s meeting Tuesday night.

Cl Twp Prepares For Orderly Annexation

Clear Lake Twp. had a short meeting Tuesday night, with only a few items on the board’s agenda.

Annexation
Supervisor Gary Gray asked the board to read through the documentation given to them regarding orderly annexation with the City of Clear Lake, telling them he and their attorney have reviewed it and both feel comfortable with it.

Using a map of the township, he indicated the zones discussed in the document, explaining what area each of them referenced.

Gray explained there are stringent requirements outlined for the city to annex after the board expressed concern over potential issues.

“I’m assuming they’ll want to reword it, but at least we’ve set some ground rules,” he said.

Engineer Terrance Vander Eyk was asked to draw up a legal description and map for Gray to present to the Clear Lake City Council at their next meeting once the board has read through and okay the document.

Road Report
Eyk informed the board they could expect a bill for $1,003 from the county for striping of three townships roads, Riverwood, 100th Ave. and 86th Ave.

He told them Todd Schendzielos had built up, graded and packed 77th Street as he is concerned with how the road is going to plow this winter. He’s now requesting the township trim the trees; the board indicated they would have Jeff Rhodes from Driveway Services do so.

A motion carried authorizing partial payment of $46,550 to Allied Blacktop for 2017 sealcoat projects.

Other Business
Gray informed the board the plat amendment and conditional use permit for the new township hall was approved by the county, so they can continue to move forward with the project.

Gray told the board he is still working on revised numbers for the new fire contract; the goal is to make it more equitable for all parties involved. Currently the City of Clear Lake pays 8% with Clear Lake and Palmer townships paying the remainder.

Supervisor Bud Stimmler informed the board the history book was at the printer; he will have numbers at the next meeting.

The sheriff reported September was busy with 109 calls for service, including 47 traffic violations, eight medicals, two DUIs, two accidents, one property damage and a stolen and recovered trailer.

It was also reported the suspect involved in a high-speed chase that began in Clear Lake Oct. 6 had yet to be apprehended, however he has been identified and is not believed to be a threat to the public.

The next Clear Lake Twp. meeting will be Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.
