Big Lake’s boys basketball team recently defeated Paynesville 90-74 on Dec. 29, 2025, at the Holiday Hoops tournament in Perham. 

Big Lake advanced to the championship against Perham (played Tuesday) and Paynesville played Sauk Centre for third place.

Judd Layton led the Hornets with 28 points while Trevor Stuckenholtz had 14 and Eddie Reinertalso had 14. 

The win improved Big Lake’s record to 3-2, while Paynesville dropped to 2-5.

Games were held at Perham High School (The Hive), Prairie Wind Middle School, and Heart of the Lakes Elementary.

Vs. Perham

The Hornets captured the title with a 82-70 win over Perham Tuesday night. Judd had 18 points,  Will Newland, 18, Leroy Hamrin 14. and  Lane Pettis,11.
