During Becker’s Celebrate Becker event, Feb. 25, a Lamere Cycles 500 Fat Tire Blitz Bike Race is scheduled to run at Pebble Creek Golf Course at noon.

 

The race will feature six laps around a five-mile, groomed trail course. The race is open to anyone interested and the site will open for activities at 9 a.m. with practice laps beginning at 10 a.m.

 

For participants, a photo ID is required to get a race bag and timing chip. The ID will also be needed if one plans to have a drink or two following the race.

 

Food, hot cider and hot chocolate will also be available at the golf course. The clubhouse will have bike clinics and there will be warming areas, changing areas and restroom facilities too.

 

Pre-registration is preferred and anyone can do so at the Becker Community Center for free prior to Feb. 18. One can also call the BCC to register (763-200-4271) or mail in your registration on or before Feb. 18 (PO Box 250, Becker, MN 55308).

 

For those who register after Feb. 18, the cost will be $10 and one can sign up at 9 a.m. the day of the race.

 

Helmets are required.

 

If one doesn’t feel like participating, but wants to come spectate, one can do so for free. Great vantage points will be available throughout the course.

 

Lamere Cycles is putting up a $500 cash award to the overall winner. JonnyRockBikes is putting up $250 for the runner-up. In addition, event organizers are giving the female contestants a two-minute timing handicap and everyone participating will take off from the starting line in a group.
