Celebrate Becker Hopes To Melt The Winter Doldrums

Wouldn’t it be nice to carve a little slice of summer out of winter’s frozen tundra?

Remember Freedom Days with the warmth, fun, food and frolics?

That’s what the Becker Chamber of Commerce is trying to duplicate with this year’s Celebrate Becker event.

Ahem — minus the warmth (in some cases).

In year’s past, the chamber has sponsored the Becker Business Expo that featured area vendors offering trinkets, coupons, prizes and samples as they tried to entice guests into embracing their goods and services.

This year, the chamber plans to enhance the expo experience while integrating a little Freedom Days into the festivities.

On Sat., Feb. 25, the Becker Fieldhouse will again be open for area vendors to showcase their goods but it will also feature crafters, concessions and a kiddie playground with scores of inflatables.

But it won’t end there.

There will be a breakfast hosted by the high school’s robotics team that Saturday morning as well as a craft show at the community center. Outside in the rugged wilderness of Becker there will be a medallion hunt, a snow sculpture challenge, a 30-mile fat tire bike race at Pebble Creek and cross country skiing.

The chamber is selling t-shirts promoting the event and they can be purchased at the chamber office, community education, BCC, Becker Spine and Sherburne State Bank.

Inside the fieldhouse amongst the vendors and inflatables will be an indoor triathalon event for people of all ages. The chamber promises a multitude of fantastic door prizes as well as a noteworthy grand prize for one lucky visitor who attends the event.

Chamber committee members are: Lynette Brannan, Michelle Peacock, Rob Olsen, Dick Behm, Val Wruck, Lisa Sanger and Pam Liestman.

Vendor space and sponsorships for the event and the inflatables are still available. More information can be learned at 763-262-2420 or at www.beckerchamber.org/events.

The slogan for Celebrate Becker is “Bringing Community Together”. What better way than to pull in some of Freedom Days fun to brighten these long winter days?
See you all there!
