Calls About Missing Jury Duty, Court Dates Are Phony

Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office took reports last week from people who received phone calls informing them that they have missed jury duty or a court appearance and that they need to go to the Government Center.

Some of the calls have a call-back number (763-746-0620) that is an automated calling tree that is identified as the sheriff’s office. Other callers receive a call-back number (763-765-3500) that is the actual number for the sheriff’s office.

None of these calls are coming from the sheriff’s office, said Sheriff Joel Brott.

If someone misses a court date or jury duty, that person typically gets a written summons and a call from Court Administration.

The calls being reported are from a male individual and/or a voicemail identifying themselves as someone from the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office.

At least one of the calls told a Sherburne County resident to go to the Hennepin County Government Center to take care of the warrant. The caller also told that resident to purchase a Green Dot MoneyPak debit card to pay for his warrant, Brott said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the source of these calls and wants to remind people that these types of calls are not the way Sherburne County handles missed court dates or missing jury duty.
