K9 BRUNO. (Photo from BLPD Facebook Page.)
DOZENS OF VEHICLES navigated the streets of Big Lake last Saturday to honor one of the departments fallen heroes. Bruno died unexpectantly two weeks ago and was given a tribute and a cake (next photo) to commend his service. (Patriot Photo above by Bill Morgan. Other Photos are from the BLPD Facebook page).

Bruno honored with special procession

Last Saturday, the streets of Big Lake were reverberating with loud siren calls from police vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks and   SUV’s.

All for a fallen officer, Bruno, Big Lake’s K9 Deputy.

Two weeks ago, the Big Lake PD reported that Bruno — while off-duty — experienced an unforeseen medical emergency. Bruno was taken to an emergency veterinarian but was not able to survive the medical complication. Bruno’s handler was officer Guy Chaffee.

Saturday’s procession was held to honor Bruno and Chaffee and it ran for a few miles along Hwy. 10, down to Lakeshore Drive and around Big Lake and Lake Mitchell and concluding with a procession down Eagle Lake Road to conclude at the BL police station.

The procession included vehicles and drivers from Big Lake, Becker, St. Cloud, Rogers, Plymouth, Elk River, MN State Patrol, Meeker County, Wright County, Sherburne County, Mille Lacs County, Ramsey County, CentraCare Ambulance, Big Lake FD and Burda’s Towing.

Bruno was cremated and placed in a wooden urn.
