BL Community Fair hosts 1,240 visitors!

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted to the Patriot by Executive Director Julie Brandt, of the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce.)

“What a great event!”

“So fun!”

“There was so much to see and do!”

The above quotes were just a few of the comments heard after the 2024 Big Lake Community Fair last Saturday, March 16 at Big Lake High School.

Thanks to the partnering of the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce, Big Lake Community Education and District, the Farmer’s Market, and local businesses.

Over 1,240 people attended the event this year. The event had 58 vendor booths that featured many businesses and organizations including caricatures, face painting, the Big Lake Robotics teams and a job opportunity table.

The Big Lake Community Food Shelf received over 115 pounds of food and $50 in donations thanks to some RSVP volunteers helping at the door. Caricatures were non-stop from 10-2.

Facepainting by the Big Lake Ambassadors was a hit with the kids as usual.  In the cafeteria there was more to see this year: BLHS Jazz band had a great performance; Starz always entertains with their dancers; and new this year was “Poetry Out Loud” readings from local high schoolers; the Ballet Folklorico Rosa Quetzal was a colorful display of costumed dancers and fun entertainment; the dog show was new as well from Shooting Stars Services — who doesn’t love to watch a dog do tricks?

“We were fortunate to give away over 12 ‘Wheels’ (bikes and scooters) this year to fit all ages from one year to adult,” said Brandt. “They were all so thankful for them.”

KidSight Vision, sponsored by the Big lake Lions, screened 46 kids. Many were thankful to learn of job opportunities and upcoming job fairs by attending booths indicating they were hiring.

Door prizes were donated by Old National, Patriot News, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, Stacey Stanley-Real Broker, Imperium Dock & Lift, Josh Mandel-Edina Realty, Senior Community Services, Minnco, and others.

Proceeds benefit Big Lake High School by scholarships given based on volunteerism.

“Thanks to so many that came out for the day,” said Brandt. “Hope to see you again next year.”
