Bis Students Plant Free Library Book Kiosk At School

Students from the Becker Intermediate School won a Little Free Library kiosk in memory of Jennifer Kessler, a teacher who passed away from cancer six years ago at the age of 47.

Many of the BIS children were touched by Kessler and her love of reading.  Kessler of Albertville died April 28 of 2010.

Following Kessler’s passing, the children of BIS planted a “memory tree” on the walk up to the main doors of the school. The kids decided to “plant” the Little Free Library kiosk near the tree in her honor.

Little Free Library gave away 40 libraries this summer at their 2016 Summer festival.  To be considered for a library, the schools had to write an essay as to the why, what, where, etc. to be considered to win it.

The Little Free Library is currently available for all children, regardless of age, to use and is a place for children to stop, choose a book, read it or take it home. The books do not have to be returned.  It is a gift in memory of Ms. Kessler.

Today there are nearly 40,000 Little Free Libraries around the world.
