Big Lake receives visit from State Senators

Mayor Paul Knier, Council Member Ken Geroux, and city staff welcomed a delegation from the MN Senate Capital Investment Committee on Thurs., Oct. 30, 2025.

The visit was for Senators and their staff to learn about local bonding requests that included the Big Lake Wastewater Treatment Expansion Project.  District 27 State Senator Andrew Matthews (R) and Sherburne County Commisioner Raeanne Danielowski were also present.

Big Lake was one of 17 stops the committee would make on day three of their Metro Area Bonding Tour.  Knier gave a brief presentation explaining the need for investment in projects like the wastewater treatment project.  He cited continued population growth and new business development as reasons for expansion of the facility.   The current project cost is currently at $62.2 million and Big Lake is seeking $25 million in funding from state and federal sources.

After listening intently and asking questions about the project, Senators and staffers once again loaded themselves onto a bus to take them to their next stop.  The meeting lasted approximately 20 minutes.
