The Big Lake American Legion Post 147 proudly kicked off Veteran’s Day last week with a heartfelt ceremony at the Veterans Memorial. The event was well attended, drawing a large crowd of veterans, local citizens, and family members who gathered to pay tribute to those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Under crisp November skies, attendees stood in quiet reflection as the Legion led the ceremony with patriotic readings. The solemn atmosphere was balanced by a sense of community pride and gratitude, as residents came together to honor both past and present heroes.

Commander Bill Hannay of the American Legion, emphasized the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by veterans and their families.

Following the ceremony, many attendees gathered at Lake Café for a free breakfast and then headed over to the Big Lake Middle School for the Veteran’s Day program.

The Big Lake American Legion continues its longstanding tradition of hosting Veteran’s Day events as a way to remind the community that freedom is never free and that the sacrifices of America’s veterans should never be forgotten.
