Becker Twp. assists Legion, Boy Scouts

The Becker Township Board met Monday evening and provided an assist to the Becker Legion and the Becker Boy Scouts with an important community project.

Mark Swanson, Legion representative and Cassie Yuker, representing the Becker Boy Scouts, appeared before the board seeking approval for a cooperative partnership that would allow for the continued cardboard recycling program.  For years, the Boy Scouts have operated their program at the Becker Community Center, but the group was recently informed by the City of Becker that they would need to find a new location and can no longer continue operations there.

Swanson said the Legion helps sponsor the scouts and he invited the township to be partners by allowing the cardboard recycling to happen at the Legion Hall.  Swanson stated that the Legion would be willing to oversee the effort, if the Township would allow it on the property.

Since the Township and the Legion already have a committee in place to oversee the building lease and other cooperative efforts, the Board unanimously gave approval for that group to continue to work out the necessary agreements to allow the recycling to continue.  The board noted the importance of allowing groups like the scouts to continue their efforts.

Swanson also updated the board on the improvements that had taken place at the Legion Hall, including a new roof, electrical work and a new air handling unit.

In the future, there are stucco repairs that need to happen, as well as windows and doors.  The Board once again reiterated their commitment to helping the Legion, and it was expected that the joint committee will continue to meet to facilitate the smooth operations of the partnership.
