Becker schools utilize local food for lunches

Becker students were shucking locally raised corn from Norm’s Farm Market recently. Students  enjoyed the scrumptious fresh corn on the cob as part of one of their school hot lunches, along with delicious locally raised beef hamburgers.

Becker Schools Food Service has been partnering with local businesses the past few years in an effort to increase healthy lunch options for students. Snake River Farms has supplied locally raised beef to Becker Schools since Fall of 2023, providing over two tons of grass-fed, whole animal, ground beef in the 23-24 school year. They are on course to provide the same amount or more this year to Becker Schools.

Starting in October, Snake River Farms will also start supplying the same high nutrition, high flavor meat to the five schools of the Sartell-St. Stephen public school system.

“We just delivered the first two beef animals to McDonalds Meats in Clear Lake today for USDA inspection and processing into 2,800 quarter pound patties,”  Tom Barthel said.
