Becker City Hall saw over 1,000 voters turn out for Tuesday’s election for the school referendum.
A single-question bond referendum to invest $37.5 million was defeated by an unofficial margin of 601 “yes” votes to 612 “no” votes.
The vote was whether to allow the school district to take out debt to cover expenses to upgrade the school buildings to increase security, improve HVAC systems, correct drainage issues, and other infrastructure issues on the campus. The district also planned to construct new bus garages off-campus, add an artificial turf to the practice football field, expand the middle school, and improve industrial tech (shop and engineering classes) classrooms at the high school.
