“Autumn Lights”, the annual fund-raiser for the Sherburne History Center (SHC), drew a goodly-sized crowd to the Carousell Works in Big Lake last Saturday night. Event sponsors were the West Sherburne Tribune of Big Lake and the Sherburne County Citizen of Becker, with table sponsors Bob & Judy’s Farm market, the Sherburne State Bank, Xcel Energy and the Becker True Value.
Event organizers said that 88 tickets for the fund-raiser had been sold by Saturday night, and there were few empty chairs in the Carousell Works dining room as attendees enjoyed an excellent dinner of chicken in wild rice sauce, potatoes and seasoned squash buffet served by “A Catered Event” staff.
Entertainment was provided by the talented Bluegrass ensemble “The May North”, which had also performed at another SHC event at the same venue earlier in the year. A raffle and silent auction went on throughout the evening, with Bill Kolbinger and crew handling the details.
Before dinner was served, SHC Director Mike Brubaker provided the welcome and a history of the fund-raising efforts of the facility, which provide for the current projects there, including the book club, quilting and genealogy efforts.
Brubaker also said that the SHC will be presenting more than 80 programs in the coming year, including book discussions, family history meetings and the Elk River History Buffs presentations.
