Becker resident Ethel Mary (Olson) Linquist turned 100 earlier this week. She celebrated the occasion with family and friends at Becker City Park Saturday, December 3rd.
Ethel was one of ten children. She was born December 7, 1922, to Olof and Mary Olson. She was raised in Becker township where her family farmed 120 acres, and she attended the Kragero one-room school. Ethel is a published author and wrote a book in the 1970’s about her family history titled The Ellefson Family.
Ethel remains very active. Imagine the changes she has witnessed during the century she has lived! She has a great sense of humor, a contagious laugh and a quick wit. She continues to live in her own apartment. She can be seen driving herself around Becker running errands such as getting her own gas and shopping at the local grocery store. Ethel also ventures out of town to visit her sister Arlene for coffee and cookies.
Becker Mayor Tracy Bertram was moved when hearing about Ethel’s life and her family’s quintessential American experiences of working the land, owning a small business and a background of family military service. Bertram proclaimed December 7th, 2022 as Ethel Linquist Day in Becker.
