Letters To The Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

Walk the Walk, Vote Owen for Orrock. If he was alive today, my father would be turning 76-years-old. A Vietnam-era Army vet who was much older than my friends’ parents, Dad summed up words of wisdom in quick sayings. “Nothing worth having comes easy.” “Show me your friends and I’ll show you yourself.” Most of all, “If you talk the talk, you better walk the walk.” That last saying stuck with me, and has been playing in my head this election season in Orrock Township. Peter Owen, Supervisor D candidate, is ready to walk the walk. We’ve heard each Town Board candidate proclaim from the rooftops that they believe in transparency. It makes for great political “talk.” We must see if it’s closely followed up with actions, or “walk.” Peter Owen, a lifelong Orrock resident, pledges to vote in support of preserving livestreams of Board meetings for future use. His opponent, the incumbent, voted “no” on this several times beginning in January 2023. Peter Owen wants as many people as possible to attend Town Board meetings. Meanwhile his opponent voted “no” to allowing residents to sign up for email notifications of upcoming meetings. Transparency on the board can happen! If Peter Owen is elected for Orrock Supervisor D, along with Dalton Keiderling who is unopposed for Supervisor C, these issues can be brought back to the floor with strong support. If you think residents should have the freedom to watch what happened in their town board meetings and encouraged to participate in those meetings, vote Peter Owen!

TO THE EDITOR: Early voting has started; it’s time to make a decision of whom to vote for or against. Four years of the Biden/Harris administration have created higher inflation (groceries up +20%), increased violent crimes, illegal aliens invading our country, deaths from fentanyl, increase in child/human trafficking across our border, wars, cover up of Biden’s cognitive health, called Trump supporters white supremacists and racist, cover up of Hunter Biden laptop (www.BidenLaptopMatters.com by Marco Polo) and debt over 35 Trillion. What is Harris/Walz platform?  Continue the wars, reckless spending, raise corporate taxes, open borders, citizenship for 20 million illegals that broke our laws? No one really knows!  Walz allowed Minneapolis to burn, his combat record is questioned, destroyed small businesses during COVID,  called rural MN “Rocks & Cows”, signed a bill to make MN a sanctuary state for child transition surgery, supports  biological men to play in girls’ school sports, China connections  and opposes photo IDs to vote.  New stats from the Ice Director, 13,099 illegals with murder convictions, 15,811 illegals convicted of rape/sexual assault and 425,431 non-detained noncitizen convicted criminals are in our country!  My questions are; ”Are you better off now than four years ago and is it bad enough yet?”

TO THE EDITOR:

The headline in the supplement of last week’s Patriot about the “brutal” financial conditions took me by surprise: “Becker continues to prosper despite recession.” To which recession were you referring?  You must know that a recession is defined as two quarters of a slowing economy. Currently the US GDP is at +3%.  You asserted that financial markets have tumbled while the Dow and S & P are regularly setting record highs.  After rising to over 8% in 2020, inflation fell to 3.4%; and, yes, inflation is up slightly to 4.2%.  (Wage growth is currently outpacing inflation.)  Of course, many have been adversely affected by the unstable housing market, high interest rates and high prices (prices generally are not rising much now but have not fallen from alarming highs).  And, if the Federal Reserve is unable to decrease interest rates judiciously, a recession in the coming months could certainly result. I assume that the editor does not have a degree in economics (I do, by the way), so I would admonish the Patriot to learn the facts before spreading harmful misinformation.

(Editor’s note: In the dictionary the word “recession” is described as an economic decline so I don’t feel I need a degree in economics to use that term.)
