The Future of Becker's Educational System questions for School Board and Educators
FIRST: Becker's economic industry is the Sherco Power Plant. Sherco Provides both a tax base to the county and the city of Becker itself. Liberty Paper is dependent on the steam from Sherco to make paper.
SECOND: Information Technology in Education. MN has programs in place for K-12 Education making the physical brick and mortar schools obsolete. Becker has already taken the first step with the introduction of iPads to student classrooms. What does Sherco Power Plant have to do with Becker Schools? Nationally and locally plans are in progress to shut down the power plant groups including the President. The Sierra Club has a national campaign to shut down coal fired power plants financially subsidizing beyond coal. Michael Bloomberg has donated millions to help their effort to shut the plant down. Local resident Rose Theilen is leading the charge to shut down Sherco.
Without the power plant there will be no jobs, starting an exodus of residents with children. Now no students or tax base for the educators pays!
So what will Becker and Sherburne County have to replace the heart and lungs of this area?
