The Becker youth wrestling team took fourth place out of 32 teams who advanced to the NYWA state tournament this last weekend.
In their bracket, the Bulldogs beat New London Spicer 47-19 in the first match. They then beat Minneota 57-22. Advancing to the #2-seed in their bracket, the Bulldogs fell short to Northfield (the state champion) 40-22. The loss moved them to the second pool where they lost to United 40-29 and Hastings 38-34 to take fourth place.
Several wrestlers placed in the individual state tournament after advancing from regions.
Fourth grader Bennett Nicolas was the champion and Boston Kuschel was the runner-up of the third-fourth grade, 68-lb bracket. Eighth grader Dylan Weber took second in the seventh-eighth grade, 160-lb bracket. Sixth grader Kaden Nicolas placed fourth in the fifth-sixth grade, 84-lb bracket. Eighth grader Ethan Duncombe took sixth in the seventh-eighth grade, 100-lb bracket. First grader Rylan Kujawa took fifth in the first-second grade, 65-lb bracket.
The Bulldogs include Parker Trenz, Mason Weller, Jacob Williams, Nick Killian, Bennett Kujawa, Blayne Kuschel, Boston Kuschel, Isaac Daluge, Landen Kujawa, Kaden Nicolas, Owen Angell, Gus Baldry, Jake Rosenow, Cody Klatt, Lance Lysdal, Keelen Weller, Eli Seifert, Odin Duncombe, Rylan Kujawa, Tyler Hall and Aiden Trenz. They are coached by Mike Duncombe, Tim Kujawa, Matt Kuschel, Josh Williams, Josh Killian and Nate Hall.
