Wrestlers Lose To Foley, Take Eighth In Delano

Becker wrestled against the Foley Falcons Thursday on the road and lost 42-6.
 
The highlight for Becker was the heavyweight match between Casey Vesledahl and Mitch Trigg with Vesledahl (ranked #6 in the state) outdueling Trigg and pulling out a tough, one-point win.
 
Josh Lumley, ranked #8 at 120-lbs., was Becker’s other winner, an 8-2 victory over Foley’s Clayton Lewandowski.
 
Becker’s Jaylin Hildebrandt (ranked #10 at 182-lbs.) wrestled Foley’s top wrestler, Spencer Elwell (ranked #1) and lost by a fall at 2:32.

Delano Invitational
Last Saturday, Becker travelled to Delano to compete in an 11-team invite. The Bulldogs finished eighth (92.0) with the Tigers of Delano taking first place (223.0).
 
Other teams competing were Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran (186.0), St. Peter (133.0), Blaine (122.5), Dassel-Cokato (116.5), Rogers (104.0), St. Thomas Academy (93.0), Rockford (66.0), St. Croix Lutheran (41.0) and Park Center (33.0).
 
Results
At 113-lbs., Becker’s Jacob Berning beat WM/ML’s Carter Entinger 2-0 in the first round, then lost to BLN’s Cole LaFreneire by fall at 5:25. Berning then lost to Delano’s Tanner Kroells by fall at 2:42 to finish sixth.
 
Brenton Arbuckle wrestled for Becker at 120-lbs. and lost his first round match to Delano’s Ethan Quast by fall at 3:01. Arbuckle then beat Rockford’s Peter Schulte by fall at 5:29 before losing to SCL’s Austin Garcia by fall in the first 21 seconds. Arbuckle finished fifth.
 
At 126-lbs., Kevin Andres lost his first round match to WM/ML’s Adam Sweeney by decision, 6-1. Andres dropped down to the consolation bracket and beat SCL’s Ian Boehm by fall at 2:14, then beat St. Peter’s Wareke Gillette by decision, 3-2. Andres then had to wrestle Sweeney for the third place title, but lost again by fall at 1:42 to gain fourth place.
 
At 132-lbs.: Mikey James lost in the first round to Colton Webber of Rockford by fall at 5:04. James went on to beat Dassel-Cokato’s Keaton Batzel by major decision (18-8) before losing to Blaine’s Tim Janisch by fall at 5:01. James finished sixth.
 
At 138-lbs., Blake Paulson knocked off Delano’s Eli McCune by an 8-6 decision before losing to WM/ML’s Jordan Peterson by fall at 1:08. Paulson lost in the consolation round to Rockford’s Hayden Roehl by fall at 5:01 to end his day.
 
Adam Baumen was Becker’s wrestler at 145-lbs. and he dispatched of Blaine’s Carter Newman by a 4-3 decision in his first match, then lost to Delano’s Camden Tschudi by an 8-6 decision. Baumen wrestled and beat St. Peter’s Alex Devens in OT by an 8-6 score before losing to Newman in the third place championship with an injury. Baumen finished fourth.
 
At 152-lbs., Becker’s Zack Fisher beat SCL’s Thomas Boehlke by a fall at 0:19. Fisher then defeated Gabe Leahy of St. Thomas Academy by a 14-8 decision before losing to Delano’s Zack Knight by a 5-3 decision. Fisher took on St. Peter’s Manny Gomez in the third place championship, but lost by  9-8 score to finish fourth.
 
Hildebrandt received a bye in his first round at 182-lbs., then beat Nick Lunsford of St. thomas by a fall at 1:24. Hildebrandt lost by a 6-4 decision to Dassel-Cokato’s Jareth Hoernemann for second place.
 
At 285-lbs., Vesledahl received a first round bye, then beat Delano’s Walker Russek by a 10-3 decision. Vesledahl lost to Roger’s Andrew Piehl by fall at 45 seconds to finish in second place.
 
Up Next
The Bulldogs travel to Eden Valley-Watkins High School Tuesday to compete in a quadrangular match with EVW, Paynesville and Rocori. Saturday, they hit the road for Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa for an 11 a.m. match.
