SENIOR SAMANTHA ANGELL played very well this past week in helping her Bulldog team improve to 22-4 with wins over Foley, Nova, Hibbing, St. Louis Park and Milaca.

Volleyball Team Continues To Play Well With Playoffs Looming

The Becker Bulldog girls volleyball team went 5-1 this past week to improve to 22-4 with one match left on the regular season schedule.

On Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs easily dispatched of Foley on the road in three games, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-22.
 
Sam Angell had seven kills, five digs, one blocked shot and one ace to lead the team. Kalie Jergens finished with 11 kills, five digs and three blocks. Kalley Anderson  also had 11 kills and five blocked shots while Jessica Gruber had two kills and three blocks and Hope Amundson had one kill.
 
Becker’s Daisy Kent contributed with 14 set assists while Brinkley Zoller had 13. Alexa Hanowski notched 16 digs.
 
“The girls continue to grow and improve their skills as we get closer to playoffs,” said Head Coach Kristina Sloan. 
 
Becker is 8-1 in the Granite Ridge Conference with a final  conference game against Mora at home Thursday. 
 
Bloomington Jefferson Tournament
The Bulldogs traveled to Bloomington last Saturday to play four teams in a exhibition tournament. They finished with a 3-1 record.
 
In match one, Becker faced the 16-9 Winona Winhawks and lost in two straight sets, 25-22 and 25-14.
 
The ladies rebounded in the second match, knocking off  the 21- 3 Nova Classical Academy Knights in three sets, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-11.
 
In match three, Becker faced the 6-13 Hibbing Bluejackets and handled them in two sets, 25-21 and 25-11.
 
In the final match of the day, the Bulldogs took on the 8-8 St. Louis Park Orioles and beat them in fine fashion, 25-8 and 25-17.
 
Zoller led the Bulldogs with 48 set assists while Kent had 42. Hanowski finished with 31 digs and Carly Baumgartner had 15.
 
Angell was dominating, finishing the day with 28 kills, 23 digs, four blocks and six aces. Jergens also had a great day, recording 31 kills, 21 digs, five blocks and six aces.
 
Anderson had 18 kills, eight blocks and one ace while Gruber had nine kills and eight blocks and  Amundson had seven kills and four blocks.
 
Becker 3 ,Milaca 0
 
Last Friday, the Bulldogs hosted the  5-12 Milaca Wolves and finished them off in three sets,  25-13, 25-12 and 25-19.
 
Angell finished with seven kills and 10 digs. Jergens had seven kills, Anderson six kills, Gruber three kills and Megan Hoppe had three kills. 
 
Kent had 11 set assists while Zoller had six. Hanowski finished with 10 digs.
 
Up Next
The Bulldogs take on the 12- 9 Mora Mustangs Thursday in the final regular season match of the year. Becker beat Mora back on Sept. 17 in three straight sets.
 
Albany and Becker lead the GRC with 8-1 records. Becker’s overall record is 22-4 and Albany’s is 18-6. 
 
Section 8AAA playoffs begin Oct. 27 with seeding occurring Sunday, Oct. 25. The #1-3 seeded teams will get a first round bye.
