Veldman Among Finalists For 2014 Mr. Football Award

The 10 finalists for the 2014 Mr. Football Award have been announced by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA).
 
Senior student-athlete Michael Veldman is receiving well-deserved recognition for his noteworthy career on the Becker High School football team and was the sole entry from all players in the Granite Ridge Conference.
 
Leading up to this weekend’s Prep Bowl, Veldman has thrown for 2,377 yards in 12 games with 33 TDs and just four interceptions. His completion percentage is 60.5%.
 
The Mr. Football Award is sponsored by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA) and the Minnesota Vikings. Each nominated player must be a graduating senior whose coach is a current member of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association.
 
The Mr. Football Award was first presented in 2004, with the first winner being Nick Mertens of East Grand Forks High School. The 2013 Mr. Football Award winner was Jeffrey Jones of Minneapolis Washburn High School.
 
The 2014 Mr. Football Award will be presented at the Mr. Football Banquet on Sun. Nov. 30 (8:30 a.m.) at the DoubleTree by Hilton Minneapolis Park Place Hotel.
 
The 10 finalists for the 2014 Mr. Football Award (in alphabetical order) are: Dalton Elliott, QB, Nicollet; Jackson Erdmann, QB, Rosemount; Kez Flomo, RB, Totino-Grace; Robbie Grimsley, RB/FS, Hutchinson; Alex Hart, LB/RB, Prior Lake; Will Rains, RB, Eden Prairie; John Rumpza, QB, Blooming Prairie; John Santiago, RB/DB/Ret, St. Francis; Ryan Schlichte, QB, Mankato West; Michael Veldman, QB, Becker.
 
Michael is the son of Gregg and Stacy Veldman of Becker.
