Trap Team Ties For Eighth At Championships

The Becker boys and girls trap shooting teams participated in the Class AA league championships in Alexandria, Saturday.

The 2014 championship saw 3,948 registered student athletes and brought in around 15,000 attendees to the largest youth trapshooting tournament in the world at the Alexandria Shooting Park.

Becker had three 25-straights from Sam Somrock, Michael Sakry and Kyle Schroeder. The team finished tied for eighth out of 35 teams.

“Great shooting guys,” said Coach Cary Rauch. “Overall we had a tremendous day and are conference 2AA champions in our first year.  I am looking forward already to next year’s season.”

Coon Rapids took home the first place title and advanced to the state tournament this weekend. They scored 470 points compared to Becker’s 453.

Hibbing was second (469), Hermantown third (466), Brainerd fourth (464), Badger-Greenbush-Niddle River was fifth (457), Alden-Conger, LeSeuer-Henderson and Rockford tied for sixth (456), Waterville-Elysian-Morristown seventh (455) and Becker and Fergus Falls tied for eighth (453).

“I want to thank all the parents for your support and help throughout the season,” said Coach Rauch.  “Without you it would have not happened.  Also, I want to thank all the coaches that volunteered their time and talents to help.”

Rauch was especially appreciative of Coach Chris Keeler.

“He has spent many hours listening to me bouncing idea's off of him,” said Rauch.  “Thank you coach Keeler.”

Four seniors will be lost to next year’s team due to graduation and they include Tyler Madsen, Ethan Grimlie, Devan Muraska and Mikayla Fitzpatrick.
