Trap Team Shooting For Another Successful Season

Chris Keeler returns as head coach of the Becker Trap Shooting team.

The squad kicked off their 2017 spring trap season last Monday at Del-Tone-Luth Gun Club. Keeler’s team has 33 student athletes this season with a nice mix of returning and new shooters.

“As in the past seasons, we are part of the MN Clay Target League, which has seen tremendous growth and will have over 15,000 student athletes this year,” he said. “That places it among the top activities in participation.”

Keeler says his team has not been assigned a class or conference yet, but will be soon as it is based on team size and allows for virtual competition among similar sized teams instead of geography or school size.

“Most of our other local schools have teams of 50+ athletes, which are competing for both individual scores and a team score for season averages,” Keller said. “We have been able to keep the same coaching staff as last season which will help by leading the team with a strong base of knowledge and experience.

Those coaches include Gregg Hedtke, Tom Voigt, Jeff Schroeder, Eric Olson and Dan Tollefson.

“Our team looked good again out on the firing line with a lot of smiles and broken targets, and we hope to add another trophy to the case as we have each year since the team started,” said Keeler. “We came in a close second to a strong Hibbing team last year.”
