Trap Shooters Finish 19th At State

The Becker Bulldog trap shooting team’s season ended this past week, finishing in 19th place at the state championships in Alexandria last Friday. “I would like to thank each of you for a great season,” Head Coach Cary Rauch said to his team following their season play. Despite the sub-par finish at state, the Bulldogs were Class 2 Conference 4 champs for the second year in a row.

“Even though we had a rough day last Friday at the state championships, I am positive that you all gave it your very best and strove to win,” said Rauch to his team.  “In the end it is the effort put forth that counts.  Our team will continue to get bigger and better.  With continued practice over the next year we all will improve.  Alexandria was a learning experience for all of us.”

Becker’s Kyle Schroeder was the top varsity male for the Bulldogs with a total score of 94, giving him a finish in a tie for 29th place.

Other Becker shooters were Michael Sakry (92 - tied for 55th), Evan Schmitt (90 - tied for 95th), Mitch Soenneker (88 - tied for 117th), Blake Sandeen (88 - tied for 117th), Carter Garding (88 - tied for 117th), Sam Somrock (87 - tied for 144th), Matthew Stone (86 - tied for 158th), Ethan Quill (83 - tied for 210th), Zach Anderson (82 - tied for 224th), Brenden Barsody (81 - tied for 240th), Dan Tollefson (80 - tied for 249th), Tanner Hammer (80 - tied for 249th), Nathan Sydow ( 79 - tied for 258th) and Josiah Christensen (64 - tied for 305th).

For the girls, Becker’s Heidi Voigt scored a 73, good for a 16th place finish and Samantha May had a 61, good for 19th place.

As a team, Becker captured 16th place with 452 points. Buffalo took first place with a score of 475, followed by Detroit Lakes (473) and Walker/Hackensack/Akeley (471).

“I would like to thank Dr. Malone, Principle Sandy Logrono, Dave Niemi and Jesse O'Neil for their help and support,” said Rauch.  “There would not be a trap team with out them.”

Rauch said he was very proud of how his team all came together for the 2015 season. He said there will be fall trap team which will be participating in the State High School Clay Target League through Community Education and the Becker Youth Sport Shooting Association. The fall league will be open to grades 7 - 12.

“There will be many new faces this fall and as part of getting these new shooters ready to be part of the high school team, I will need the current team members to help by teaching the basics of trap,” he said.
