Track Teams Near The Top At Milaca

 
The Becker boys and girls track teams competed Tuesday in the 5AA True Team meet held in Milaca. In this True Team event, the first place team advances on to the state true team meet and the teams placing second through fifth are entered into a 'paper meet' to determine which teams advance on wild card status.
 
Boys Track
 
Head Coach Paul Schmidt’s boys but came up just short of winning and had to settle for a third place tie this year.  
 
“We knew Monticello and Rocori were going to be tough, but I had an idea that Big Lake might be the team to beat,” said Schmidt.
 
That is exactly what happened as Big Lake captured the section championship with 521.5 points with  Rocori finishing second with 479 points.  Becker and Monticello tied for third when both teams scored 445 points.  Zimmerman was fifth with 361, Foley sixth with 355.  Seventh went to EVWK with 272, Princeton eighth with 256.5 and Milaca’s 215 and Cathedral’s 211 rounded out the field.
 
David Myres rebuked his 110M high hurdle record with a time of 15.28 and Michael Schmitz added a seventh place with 17.84.  In the 300M hurdles, Myres ended up second with a time of 41.38 and Schmitz was eighth with a time of 45.83.  Myres also finished 10th in the 200M and the long jump.
 
Kevin Andres was solid as usual in the 400M, which he won with a time of 51.74. He then placed second in the 200M with a time of 23.2 and fourth in the 100M with a time of 11.67.
Jordan Gruenes was second in the 800M, but had a personal best time of 2:00 flat and was part of the winning 4x800M team with Noah Fakhreddine, Basil Ricker and Jake Nelson, who ran a top time for the year of 8:37.  
 
Fakhreddine also finished solidly in the 800M with a sixth place finish and a time of 2:09.
 
Sam Ricker won the 1600M with a time of 4:40.73 with brother Basil finishing fourth with a time of 4:49.3.  In the 3200M, Tyson Ricker ran a personal best time of 10:47, good for fourth and Lukas Karel ran a 10:58 which finished eighth.
 
Jack Belde had a good day, capturing second in the high jump with a leap of 5'8" and fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 38' 3.5". He also captured sixth in the long jump with a leap of 19'.  
 
Cade Stommes finished ninth in the long jump and 14th in the 400M.  Teddy and Tommy Halvorson had good days in the shot put and disc where Teddy threw a personal best of 100' even  in the disc and Tommy a personal best in the shot  put with a toss of 37'5".   Braden Weber was Becker’s top thrower in the shot put with a toss of 37' 11.75", good for ninth place.
 
Girls Track
 
Becker girls placed fifth out of the 10 teams competing.  
 
Team scores: Rocori 534.5, Foley 523.5, Monticello 505, Princeton 388, Becker 362.5, Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball 334, Milaca 246.5, Zimmerman 244.5, St Cloud Cathedral 238 and Big Lake 213.5.
 
The girls started off the running events with the 4x800M relay in which they placed third and ran a time of 10:06.0.  This time was Becker’s season best and earned the team of Lexi Dehmer, Liz Mackedanz, Lexi Rose and Victoria Kolbinger a spot on the Raceberry Jam Minnesota HS Honor roll. 
 
Other relays were Paige Maunu, Abby Maruska, Sarah Woelfel, and Cassidy Pleoger in the 4x100M, running a season best time of 53.56 for fifth, which moved them up a couple spots on the Becker honor roll.  
 
The Bulldog 4x200M relay foursome had some hand off issues but still managed to break the 2:00 mark with a time of 1:59.45 for Paige Maunu, Callie Doucette, Regan Hausmann, and Keeley Holm.
 
Becker’s 4x400M relay team of Abby Maruska, Liz Mackedanz, Lexi Dehmer and Dani Nuest ran a season best time of 4:21.46 to finish fifth.
 
The girls’ 100M hurdlers ran good races with Callie Doucette equalling her PR time of 17.6 for ninth and Sarah Woelfel notched a PR time of 17.8 for 11th. 
 
In the 300M hurdles, Regan Hausmann nabbed a PR time of 52.65 for ninth and Callie Doucette ran 53.03 for 12th.  
 
Cassidy Pleoger came in third in the 100M with a time of 13.14 and Paige Maunu ran 14.03.  Pleoger ran the 200M in a time of 27.97  (seventh) and Abby Maruska ran 28.67  (13th).
 The 400 meter race had Liz Mackedanz place fifth with a time of 63.76 and Keeley Holm ran 68.05.
 
In the middle distance and distance races, Becker had Lexi Dehmer in the 800M running a time of 2:26.86 for a season best time, placing her fourth.  Dani Nuest ran the 800M in a time of 2:32.97, placing her eighth while her 1600M time of 5:31.87 was a PR for her, placing her sixth.  
 
Victoria Kolbinger ran the 1600M instead of the 3200M and ran a good time of 5:49.87.  Lexi Rose and Natasha Berthiaume continue to do well in the 3200 meters, coming in seventh and eighth places. Rose finished at 12:33.07 and Berthiaume at 12:34.15 — each earning a PR time and  a spot on the Becker HS honor roll.  
 
Cienna Pleoger achieved her highest finish (fifth place) in the triple jump with a leap of 32' 6.25.  Abby Maruska jumped 30'1.
 
The other long jumpers were Paige Maunu 14'10, and Cienna Pleoger 14' 4.5. High jumpers were Liz Mackedanzat 4'6 and Sarah Woelfel at 4'4.
 
Pole Vault had Jessica Gruenes soaring to 7' and Tessa Maruska to 6'.  Grace Schendel placed eighth in the discus with a PR of 81'8, which put her on Becker's honor roll.  Anna Briggs threw 65'10 in the discus.  The shot put had Anna in 13th with 26'6 and Grace in 15th with a PR of 25'9.
