Track Teams Compete At Milaca, Sartell And St. Michael

The Becker girls  and boys track teams competed in three events in the last week and a half and numerous athletes continued to show vast improvement.

Milaca Invite
Tuesday, the boys and girls traveled to Milaca to compete in a Granite Ridge Conference invitational.
 
Girls Track and Field
The weather was a bit cool and windy and two girl track stars emerged as all conference athletes this year. 
 
All conference is awarded to the first and second place individuals in each event and to the first place relay team in each relay race.  Honorable mention is to the third individual and the second place relay.
 
Earning all conference was Hannah Schmidt, who was second in the pole vault with a vault of 10'0".
 
“She is getting very consistent at that height, which is a good thing,” said Head Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy. 
 
Schmidt placed second to Rachelle LaBlanc of Little Falls, who is the conference record holder in that event.
 
Also  earning all conference was Maesyn Thiesen in the 400 meter dash with a time of 63.50.
 
Team scores: 1). Little Falls 145.5; 2). Mora 107; 3). Foley 93.5; 4). St Cloud Cathedral 89; 5). Zimmerman 72; 6). Becker 71; 7). Albany 65; 8).  Milaca 58.
 
Schmidt made finals in the 100 and 200 dash races, placing sixth (14.52 - prelims PR of 13.63) and fourth (29.14). In the high jump, she placed fourth with 4'8".
 
Madi Kealy placed sixth in the 1600 meter run with a PR time of 5:49.05 after being seeded eighth. In the 800, she placed eighth with a time of 2:40.92. Kealy also ran on the 4x400 relay along with Lahr, Severson and Thiesen. They placed fifth with their season best time of 4:30.36. 
 
The other relay earning a season best time was the 4x200 meter relay consisting of Olsen, Manifold, Thiesen and Sydow. They had the nicest handoffs they have had all year and finished in third place (1:55.76) behind Foley (1:53.53) and Mora (1:55.22).
 
Becker’s 4x100 relay had nice hand offs as well and did a nice job coming home with 4th place. Members were Reichle,  Youngdahl, Olsen  and Sydow running a time of 55.97.
 
In the 300 hurdles, Lahr provided excitement, placing fourth (54.07) with her aggressive running style.  
 
The 3200 meter run had Hendrickson improving her time yet again to PR in 12:49.6 for sixth place.
 
Along with Schmidt's points in the pole vault and high jump, Becker’s other field events earned points as well. 
 
Throwing well in the shot put, senior  Moeller and eighth grader Kerzman made finals with Moeller placing seventh (28'7") and Kerzman ninth (28'2"0). Kerzman also had a great day in the discus with a throw of 95'5" for fifth place and a PR.
 
Olsen got another PR in the long jump, placing sixth (14' 8 1/4").   In the triple jump, Edling leapt to a season best 31'10 1/2" for sixth and Hubbard went 31'1 1/2" for eighth.
 
Boys Track and Field
The boys had a depleted team with illnesses, injuries and other issues that allowed many other athletes an opportunity to step up and show what they could do.  
The 4x200 team earned honorable mention all conference with their second place finish.  Members included Hildebrandt, Matt and Andrew Davalos and Laudenbach.   “Due to an injury in the prelims, Andres was not able to anchor the relay team and Dylan stepped in and did a great job of finishing strong and holding on to Becker’s second place finish,” said Schmidt.
 
Andrew Davalos also earned honorable mention all conference with a third place finish in the 400.
 
Gammon missed out on all conference honors by three inches in the shot and finished third with honorable mention with a 45 foot throw.
 
Radunz also hit a personal best in the disc and made finals with a 114' throw.
 
Logan Gallus had a good day, earning a sixth place finish in the 300 intermediate hurdles. Gallus also jumped in and ran a leg in the 4x400 relay team that finished fourth, with other members Matt and Andrew Davalos along with Novak, who also filled in for an injured runner.
 
Lahr had a strong performance in the 1600 and 3200 finishing in fifth place  in each event.  
 
Novak continues to run well in the 800 and all of Becker’s triple jumpers (Matt Davalos, Andrew Davalos and Laudenbach) reached personal bests with Andrew actually making finals.
 
The Bulldog team finished seventh with Little Falls winning the meet.
 
True Team Event
The track teams traveled to Sartell last Thursday to compete in weather more suited for the football team.
 
The meet was held in spite of the threatening weather and took quite a while to complete. In fact, a couple of the events were held over until Friday because of inclement weather conditions.
 
Girls Track and Field
The True Team event is a meet where each competitor earns points for their effort and is a true measure of the team.   
 
Becker’s girls had a competitive night, placing sixth out of 11 teams.  
 
Team scores: Sartell-St Stephen 650.5, Rocori 617, Princeton 438.5, Big Lake 411, St Cloud Cathedral 373.5, Becker 349.5, Foley 334, St Cloud Apollo 315. Albany 303, Zimmerman 286, Milaca 236.
 
The Bulldogs saw each of their relay teams get season best times and individually they earned eight PRs.
 
Personal records were  achieved by Kealy and Rositas in the 1600 (5:49.66 -8th and 6:12.08), Maesyn Thiesen and Manifold in the 400 (63.47- 7th and 67.7), Schmidt in the 200 (28.52), Kerzman in both the shot put and discus (28'8' and 82'1") and Olsen in the long jump (14'5 1/2).
 
Becker’s highest places came from Schmidt - third in high jump, Thiesen - seventh in 400, Youngdahl - seventh in long jump, Kealy - eighth in 1600, Lahr - ninth in the 300 hurdles and Hendrickson - ninth in the 3200.
 
The 4x800 placed eighth in 11:15.76. The 4x200 ran 1:56.8, the 4x100 ran 55.19 and the 4x400 ran 4:31.66.
 
Boys Track and Field
Becker placed eighth out of the 11 teams with 344 points in a competition that was won by Sartell with 577 points.  
 
Becker’s top performances were Dertinger, placing ninth in the 100 with 11.98 seconds, seventh in the long jump with 18'7" and helping the 4x100 relay team to a fifth place finish with a 47.5 time.  Other members of the 4x100 team included Bhakta, Schmitz and Hildebrandt.
 
The 4x200 meter team also ran well placing fifth out of 11 teams with a season best time of 1:38.6.  Members of the 4x200 team include Hildebrandt, Matt Davalos, Andrew Davalos and Andres.
 
Lahr had a strong showing for Becker, finishing sixth in the 1600 and fourth in the 3200 with a 10:26. This was his season best time.
Gammon and Radunz had nice showings in the shot and discus events with Gammon placing sixth in the shot and Radunz placing eighth in the disc with a season best 111'8".
 
Other noteable performances were Bauman finishing 10th in the 800 with 2:15 and Andres and Davalos finishing eighth and ninth in the 400.
 
Ed Bourelle Invite
The Becker girls  and boys track teams traveled to St. Michael-Albertville two weeks ago to compete in the annual Ed Bourelle Invitational.
 
Girls Track and Field
Becker’s top performer of the meet was Schmidt, who placed first in the pole vault, clearing10', which tied her with former track star Tiffany Backes for the meet record. The accomplishment also improved Schmidt’s mark on the Minnesota State High School League  honor roll.   The 10’ was a personal record mark for Schmidt, who also tied her personal record in the high jump at 5'. Schmidt’s high jump mark also put her on the MSHSL honor roll in that event. 
 
Not settling for mere greatness, Schmidt also placed sixth in the 200 with a time of 28.84.
 
Friday’s meet had a lot of quality competition with teams from STMA, Monticello and Osseo.  
 
Becker’s 4x800 relay team (Kealy, Severson, Tripp and Hendrickson) ran a time of 11:41.53.
 
The 4x200 relay team (Olsen, Manifold, Severson and Reichle) ran 2:01.7.
 
The 4x100 relay team (Michels, Youngdahl, Olsen and Sydow) ran 55.46.
 
The 4x400 team (Severson, Kealy, Tripp and Lahr) ran 4:43.55.
 
Other placers for Becker include Hendrickson in the 3200 meters with a PR time of 12:52.71.
 
Olsen placed fifth in the long jump with a PR of 14'5". Lawrence placed fourth in the high jump 4'6.
 
In the triple jump, Edling was sixth, jumping 30'3".
 
Other PR performances were Rositas and Spinner in the 1600 (6:29.43 and 6:31.99). Rositas also PR’d in the 800 meters  (2:54.11). Manifold PR’d in the 400 (67.85)
 
Boys Track and Field
Kreston Gammon was the boys’ highest individual place finisher with a third place finish in the shot put. He had a toss of 43'6".
 
The boys 4x100 relay team of Bhakta, Dertinger, Schmitz and Huebner placed third.
 
Other individual performances that stood out were Soare with a sixth place finish in the long jump at 18' and Andres a sixth place finish in the 200 with a time of 24.87.
 
Lahr continues to run well as he placed fifth in the 1600 with a season best time of 4:48. He also has a personal best time in the 3200 with a 10:26.46.
Becker’s 4x400 team of Bauman, Andrew Davalos, Matt Davalos and Hildebrandt finished fifth.
 
Becker’s next meet is Tuesday at home against Little Falls and Zimmerman. It is Becker’s first home meet in nine years and admission is free.
