Tigers spoil Hornet Homecoming

The Princeton Tigers came to Big Lake last Friday and left with a 49-20 victory over the Hornet football team.

The Hornet offense was effective, gaining over 400 yards, but the team couldn’t get enough stops.

Big Lake scored one touchdown in each of the first three quarters, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with the visiting Tigers. Princeton led 14-6 after the first, 28-12 at halftime, and 35-18 after three.

Carter Stromberg had a great day on the ground, running 13 times for 143 yards. Carson Gellerman was effective both through the air and on the ground. He finished the day 18-26 for 201 passing yard and a touchdown. He added 57 yards on the ground along with another score. His top target on the day was Jack Midas who caught six passes for 79 yards. Caleb Martin was on the receiving end of Gellerman’s touchdown pass.

Defensively, the top two performers were Jose Acuna and Braedyn Wemple. Acuna had 10 total tackles and forced a safety in the fourth quarter. Wemple led the team with 15 total tackles. Tanner Muenkel and Redi Josewski each had six tackles of their own.

The Hornets will get a break from their brutal schedule this week. The team will host the Foley Falcons on Friday, in what will be their first game against a non-ranked opponent since the opening week. The team will also celebrate Senior Night before the game. The game will be at Big Lake High School on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
