The tradition continues...

The sounds and sights of Eppard Field at Dwight Lundeen Stadium are certainly hallmarks of a Friday night in Becker, with the familiar roaring of the crowd and a shiny, new turf playing surface.

But perhaps just as ubiquitous is the appealing aroma of the 30-plus year tradition of the Becker football pork chop.  When television cameras come to cover the game, there’s always a shot of the smokey grill churning out hundreds of the McDonald’s Meats delicacies, seasoned with a spice mixture whose contents is more closely guarded than Colonel Sanders’ own “secret”.

Now, thanks to a group of donors and alumni, the tradition will continue.

Doug May and Jacob Treptau of Gen II Fabrication teamed up with Jon Holm of GC Iron, Inc. to create a new masterpiece that Coach Lundeen calls “the best grill in America”.

Also upgraded was the grilling area, which now boasts a concrete slab fit for a king, providing a level surface for properly searing in the unique flavor.  Mike Kurtz of Kurtz Concrete added the surface earlier this year, while Hubbard Electric and Winlectric of Elk River provided the labor and equipment to brighten up the area with some new LED lighting.  Now, in addition to smelling the delicious delicacies, people can follow the halo of light that illuminates the haze.

The tradition continues.
