The Becker boys tennis team played two matches last weekend in Foley and one final regular season match Monday at Mound. Foley Invitational Becker received a first round bye at Foley Saturday, then went 7-0 in round two to move on.
At #1 singles, Jacob Lukkarila beat Aitkin’s Josh Carlberg by a 6-4, 6-1 score. Branden Roemer was playing at #2 singles and he beat Parker Sell of Pine City, 6-1, 6-1. At #3 singles, Becker’s Daniel Garcia defeated Mitch Wruck of Foley, 6-2, 6-2. At #4 singles, Andrew Schneider knocked off Sam Stolzenberg of Cathedral, 6-2, 60.
At #1 doubles, Becker’s tandem of CJ Howard and Tyler Lindquist triumphed over Tanner Funk and Jacob Hageman of Foley, 6-2, 6-3. Caleb Quernemoen and Johnny Crocker dispatched of Tanner Tschumper and Jamison Gothman of Foley at #2 doubles by scores of 6-3, 6-2. At #3 doubles, Jordan Bonsante and Brady Gruenhagen had little problem with Aitkin’s Kade Hopperstad and James Much, 6-0, 6-1.
“Really impressive results for my guys and I was impressed by their continual focus and desire to improve,” said Head Coach Hokan Bengtson.
In round three, Becker went 6-1 with the only loss coming at #2 singles.
Lukkarila won his #1 singles match against Logan Scott of Foley, 6-1, 6-2. Roemer had a tough time against a tough rival in Jordan Ziwicki of Foley, and Ziwicki came away with the win, 6-1, 6-4 at #2 singles. At #3 singles, Garcia sent Joel Fremling of Aitkin home with a 6-1, 7-5 loss and at #4 singles, Schneider played tough and beat Pine City’s Nate Webster, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5.
At #1 doubles, Howard and Lindquist took care of Pine City’s Jonah Bergstrom and Jared Kotek, 6-3, 6-3. At #2 doubles, Quernemoen and Crocker beat Tucker Schwartz and Jaren Johnson of Aitkin, 6-2, 6-3 and at #3 doubles, Bonsante and Gruenhagen beat Alex Laven and Jacob Lindblom of Pine City, 6-4, 7-5.
Mound Invitational
Monday, Becker traveled to Mound to play in their final regular season tennis match of the year.
