Tennis Team Splits 2 Matches

 
The Becker boys tennis team split two matches this week and Jacob Lukkarila kept his undefeated streak going with two wins.
 
Becker 4, Foley 3
 
Becker traveled to Foley Thursday and beat previously undefeated Falcons.  
 
The Bulldogs won at #1 and #2 singles and #2 and #3 doubles in convincing fashion. From there, the matches were really close.  
 
Luke Bordson had an amazing battle at #3 singles, losing 16-18 in a tiebreak for the first set, then winning 6-0 in the second set  before falling 4-6 in the third set. It was a 2.5 hour marathon.
 
No. 1 doubles was a great match as well as Ryan Bengtson and Aidan Persons played a great first set winning 6-4, but lost the second in a tiebreaker and then lost 4-6 in the third set.

No. 1 - Jacob Lukarilla (BB) defeated Tanner Funk (FF), 6-1, 6-0; No. 2 - Brady Gruenhagen (BB) defeated Tanner Tschumper (FF), 6-1, 6-0; No. 3 - Caleb Dahlstrom (FF) defeated Luke Bordson (BB), 6-7 (16), 6-0, 4-6; No. 4 - Peyton Baron (FF) defeated Zach Bengtson (BB), 2-6, 3-6.
 
Doubles Scores:
 
No. 1 - Jacob Hageman  and George Brenny (FF) defeated Ryan Bengston and  Aiden Persons (BB), 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4; No. 2 - Caden Elliott and Eli Scheideman (BB) defeated Nathaniel Vanderweyst and Owen Bartell (FF), 6-4, 6-1; No. 3 - Wyatt Hiltner and Isaac Boyer (BB) defeated Riley Erkens and Luke Estwick (FF), 6-2, 6-3.
 
MWT 4, Becker 3
 
The Bulldogs hit the road Tuesday for a match against one of the top teams in Class A in Mound Westonka. They lost by one match.
 
Lukkarila continued to play really well, winning a very close second set and remaining undefeated at #1 singles.
 
Bordson played his best match of the year so far, taking control from the start and never looked back in a 6-4, 7-5 victory.
 
In doubles, Persons and Ryan Bengtson stepped things up after losing the first set 1-6. They played some of their best tennis of the season so far and won 6-2 in the second set and 6-1 in the third.

Bengtson (BB) defeated Thomas Elliot and Andrew Abebblen (MWT), 3-6, 6-2, 6-1; No. 2 - Tyler Franzen and Nolan Hanson (MWT) defeated Eli Scheideman and Caden Elliott (BB), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3; No. 3 - Connor Madsen and Harry Moen (MWT) defeated Wyatt Hiltner and Isaac Boyer (BB) , 6-2, 7-6, 7-5.
 
Up Next 
 
Becker (7-4 on the season, 3-0 in the Granite Ridge) played Friday at 1 p.m. in Becker vs. Moorhead, then played at 4:30 p.m. vs. STMA. Both matches will be covered for next week’s Citizen-Tribune.
 
The Bulldogs host Rogers Monday, Pine City Thursday and Duluth East Friday.
