CJ HOWARD is one of Hokan Bengtson’s best tennis players and he continues to win at doubles no matter who his coach teams him up with during the year. This week, Howard played with Tyler Lindquist and they rolled in their matches against Mound Westonka, Buffalo and a host of others at Becker’s invitational last weekend.

Tennis Team Finishes Regular Season At 12 6

The Becker boys tennis team finished the regular season 12-6 with wins at Buffalo and against Mound Westonka, and getting great play from their doubles teams in their hosted invitational Saturday.

Coach Hokan Bengtson’s boys beat a solid Mound Westonka team Tuesday afternoon at home.
 
It was parent’s night and the weather was ideal and the fans enjoyed some great tennis as well as some food and fun.!
 
“Our parents are so supportive of our guys,” said Bengtson. “They provide snacks before matches and often will bring food for our team at weekend tournaments.  We are blessed to have such great support.”
 
#1 singles: Jackson Lefebvre (BB) over Tony Levens (MWT), 6-2, 6-1; #2 singles: Brandon Roemer (BB) over Victor Nelson (MWT), 6-1, 6-1; #3 singles: Jacob Lukkarila (BB) over Reed Kohls (MWT), 6-2, 5-7, 10-7; #4 singles: Andrew Schneider (BB) over Jack Linder (MWT), 6-2, 6-3.
 
#1 doubles: CJ Howard and Tyler Lindquist (BB) over Torsten Lee and Sam Abegglen (MWT), 6-4, 6-2; #2 doubles: Brady Gruenhagen and Johnny Crocker (BB) lost to Alex Lafortune and Jack Reinhardt (MWT) 6-2, 4-6, 5-10; #3 doubles: Isaac Popp and Caleb Quernemoen (BB) lost to Alex Brown and Andrew Lafortune (MWT), 6-2, 6-7(4-7), 9-11.

The Bulldogs  traveled to Buffalo and played really well, beating the Bison in every matchup.  
 
“Our kids are starting to come together as a team and it is showing up in their results,” said Bengtson.  “Our doubles teams are competing at a high level and starting to execute the strategies that we have been working on in practice.”  
 
Bengtson is excited to see some of his younger athletes  develop and start taking the lead from the seasoned veterans.

#1 doubles: CJ Howard and Tyler Lindquist (Bec) over Eric Olson and Grant Wykle (Buf), 6-1, 6-0; #2 doubles: Brady Gruenhagen and Johnny Crocker (Bec) over Hunter Hartke and Cade Stensby (Buf), 6-4, 7-5; #3 doubles: Isaac Popp and Caleb Quernemoen (Bec) over Jack Stevens and Stone Goodmanson (Buf), 5-7, 6-0, 6-3.
 
Becker Invitational
Becker hosted a six-team invite and swept the doubles action, winning first place at all three positions. 
 
Becker’s combinations of Tyler Lindquist and C.J. Howard (No. 1), Johnny Crocker and Brady Gruenhagen (No. 2) and Isaac Popp and Caleb Quernemoen (No. 3) all dominated in doubles play.
 
“We beat some teams that we had lost to earlier in the season and are really starting to improve  at all positions in our line-up,” said Coach Bengtson.
 
Foley tennis swept the singles with Zach Kantor (No. 1), Logan Scott (No. 2), Jordan Ziwicki (No. 3) and Marvin Seegraber (No. 4) all winning their singles matches.
 
Six teams competed, including St. Cloud Cathedral, Aitkin, Pine City and Mora.
 
Cathedral’s No. 2 singles player Alec Ferris placed third. The Crusaders’ doubles teams of David Reisdorf and Ryan Ferris (No. 1) and Collin Mitchell and Bradley Reuter (No. 3) each won the consolation championship.

The boys will begin playoffs at home Monday versus Big Lake at 10 a.m., then host the #2-seeded Willmar Cardinals at 1:30 p.m.
