SENIOR DAWSON BROWN finished undefeated on the season and helped the Bulldog tennis team finish 14-3 on the year and a #1 seed in the playoffs.

Tennis Team Finishes 14 3, Set To Host Playoffs

The Bulldogs improved to 14-3 on the season with the nonconference win at home Monday.
 
Becker 7, Sartell 0
 
Becker's Dawson Brown rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Brandon Schuchard at #1 singles. Becker's Josiah Borst downed Sartell's Trevor Erickson 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
 
At No. 1 doubles, Becker's Austin Hill and Branden Roemer teamed up for a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) victory over Erik Skoe and Caleb Forberg. 
 
Sartell fell to 9-5 on the season.
 
With the win, Becker earned the #1 seed for the south sub-section and will host the winner of Buffalo/Monticello Monday at 1 p.m.
 
GRC Tournament
The boys traveled to Foley last Saturday to compete in a Granite Ridge Conference Tournament. Becker won in every spot except #1 singles and #1 doubles.
 
Becker’s phenom #1 singles player Dawson Brown was unable to attend the tournament due to a funeral so Johnny Crocker stepped in to take his spot. Crocker lost his first round match to Bryce Haugly of Aitkin, 6-1, 6-0, then beat Zach Manley of Mora by a score of 7-5, 6-2 to take fifth place.
 
Zach Kantor of Foley was the eventual champion.
 
At #2 singles, Josiah Borst captured the crown by beating John Blake of Pine City in the second round (6-0, 6-1) then beat Logan Herbst of Foley (6-4, 6-2) in the championship match.
 
At #3 singles, Jackson Lefebvre ousted Max Krueger of Mora (6-1, 6-1 in the first round, then thumped Aaron Brown of Pine City, 6-1, 6-0 in the second round before finishing off Jordan Ziwicki of Foley by a score of 6-3, 6-4 in the title match.
 
At #4 singles, Josh Duke received a bye in the first round, then he beat Mathew Bollin of Foley, 6-2, 6-3 to gain the championship game. Duke proceeded to knock off McRay Drong of Cathedral by a score of 6-1, 6-2 to win the first place prize.
 
At #1 doubles, Austin Hill and Branden Roemer won their first round match over Chris Coleman and Blake Nosbush by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Hill/Roemer then beat Jacob Hagestuen and Franklin Real of Aitkin by a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 score to gain the championship match. The Becker boys battled heroically, but were beaten by Dalton Werckman and Logan Scott of Foley by a 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-1 score.
 
At #2 doubles, C.J. Howard and Tyler Lindquist of Becker advanced to the second round with a bye, then beat Jonah Bergstrom and Jared Kotek of Pine City (6-1, 6-4) to advance. They then beat Alex Boeckman and Adam Ritschie of Foley (6-3, 6-3) to take home first place.
 
At #3 doubles, Joe Gudim and Andrew Schneider made the second round via a bye, then trounced Dusty Bergstrom and Zach Broz of Pine City (6-2, 6-1) before garnering first place with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win over Connor Scott and Mitchell Wruck of Foley to take the top podium.
