Swimmers Take Second In Milaca, Beat Crusaders

The Becker Bulldog swim/dive team competed twice this past week, beating Cathedral and taking second place in Milaca. Becker 101, Cathedral 79. Thursday, Becker traveled to St. Cloud to take on the Crusaders and cruised to a Granite Ridge Conference win over Cathedral/St. John’s Prep at Warner Palaestra.

“We've hit mid season and the girls continue to work hard and swim well but are also getting very tired and that's part of the training process,” said Head Coach Tina Tamm.

Becker had five more section qualifying times: Emma Lefebvre in the 200 freestyle; Nicole Larrison in the 200 freestyle; Hailey Ericksson in the 50 freestyle; Andrea Molus in the 100 fly and Vanessa Gilles in the 100 freestyle.

Milaca Invitational
Three more Becker girls did well enough to qualify for sections and the Bulldogs finished in second place last Saturday in Milaca.

Becker’s Allison Sanderson qualified for sections in the 500 freestyle, Hailey Ericksson in the 100 freestyle and Emily Lipinski in the 50 freestyle.

Foley’s Kasey Milstroh broke her own meet record in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 57.04 seconds to lead Foley to the championship.

Milstroh also broke her own meet record in the 100 freestyle (54.11) and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:45.73) that did the same.

“We went to Milaca Saturday knowing that the competition would be close between us and Milaca and Albany,” said Tamm. “Throughout the meet, our girls did what they needed to do to win the races to get us the points needed to edge ahead of those teams.”

“They are still improving times and had 16 more personal best times,” she said.

Team scores: 1). Foley 462; 2). Becker 219; 3). Milaca 216; 4). Duluth Denfeld 192.5; 5). Albany 189.5; 6). Proctor/Hermantown 114.
