The Becker Bulldog swimming and diving team split a pair of road contests in the past week, defeating the Holdingford Huskers and falling to the Albany Huskies.
Last Thursday, Becker edged Holdingford 54-48 in a meet held at the Husker’s five lane pool. Each team could put forth two entries per event and the Bulldogs’ depth proved to be the key.
“We continue to improve our times and win races,” said head coach Tina Tamm. “It’s fun to watch them keep improving and winning.”
With the win, Becker improved its team record to 6-1 on the season.
Picking up first place finishes for the Bulldogs were Grace Wynia (200 Individual Medley), and Tia Schaap (50 Freestyle).
Delaney Varney continued her recent surge by also claiming a pair of wins in both the 100 Butterfly and the 100 Backstroke, while Meghan Swanson was the meet winner in the 500 Freestyle.
In the diving competition, Lauren Woelfel picked up the victory for the Bulldogs.
Tuesday night, Becker traveled to Albany and came up just a bit short in falling to the Huskies.
“It was a tough loss tonight, as Albany is a good team with a lot of depth,” Tamm said after the match. “However, we did have a number of personal bests for the night.”
Tamm has focused her team all season on dropping their individual times and the strategy paid off for five individuals who showed amazing improvement.
Nev Baune dropped four seconds in the 200 freestyle and eight seconds in the 500 freestyle, while teammate Eleanor Pancoast dropped six seconds in the 200 freestyle and four seconds in the 100 backstroke.
Laila Cook dropped two seconds in her 200 Individual Medley event, while Alanah Wenner dropped twelve seconds in her 100 freestyle race.
In the distance events, Meghan Swanson dropped eight seconds in her 500 freestyle race.
Even with the loss, Becker still boasts an impressive 6-2 record on the season.
Thursday night, the team was on the road again, this time in Cambridge-Isanti for a Mississippi 8 Conference meet against the Bluejackets.
