Becker 10, Albany 0
Last Monday, the girls opened their season at home against Albany and came away with a shutout win.
The Huskies put two runners on in the top of the first, but Becker pitcher Corrie Weise got out of the jam with a strikeout.
In the bottom of the inning, the Bulldogs used a combination of Albany mistakes to plate three runs.
After a quick second inning, the Bulldogs struck for another run in the third when Weise singled and scored on a Kaylyn Wiehle single.
Brooke Hendrickson singled later in the inning, but Wiehle was thrown out at the plate to end the threat.
The Bulldogs put the game out of reach with five runs in the bottom of the fourth with the big hit being an Avery Tamm double.
The game ended due to the run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning when Paige De Luque grounded towards short with the bases loaded and Weise came in to make the final 10-0.
Weise got the win going all five innings, allowing three hits and striking out nine.
Irish 8, Bulldogs 2
Last Tuesday, Becker took on defending state champion Maple Lake and lost by six.
Emma Eickhoff pitched two scoreless innings to start the game and the Bulldogs took an early lead when Emily Lamott walked, stole second, and come in to score on an Eickhoff single.
The Irish were quick to respond in the top of the third, however. Three hits, a walk, and a hit by pitch allowed them to take a 4-1 lead.
They tacked on two more in each of the fifth and sixth innings to push the lead to 8-1.
The Bulldogs started a rally in the bottom of the sixth when Wiehle walked and came in to score on a Cadence Koste infield single, but that was all the Bulldogs could muster.
Cathedral 3, Becker 1
After cancelling Monday's game against Buffalo due to snow on the field, Becker traveled to conference foe Cathedral Tuesday afternoon and lost a low-scoring game.
The Crusaders got on the board first with two unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning.
The Bulldogs threatened in the top of the fourth, but weren't able to get the big hit. The Crusaders added an insurance run in the bottom of that inning to push their lead to 3-0.
The Bulldogs finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth when Krista Paulson singled and scored on a Corrie Weise base hit. Despite putting runners on in the sixth and the seventh, the Bulldogs couldn't push another run across and fell 3-1.
Weise was the hard luck loser despite giving up only three hits and striking out 13 Crusaders. Paulson, Weise, and Avery Tamm each had two hits on the day.
Bulldogs 6, Thunder 0
Thursday, the Bulldogs traveled to Zimmerman to take on the Thunder and won by six.
The bats came alive early in this game as the Bulldogs plated three runs in the top of the first inning. Krista Paulsen led off with a double and Corrie Weise followed with another double. An Emily Lamott single was followed by an RBI ground out and a sacrifice fly from Avery Tamm.
The game stayed 3-0 until the top of the fourth when Morgan Luberda came around to score on a double from Kurstyn Patnode. Emma Eickhoff added to the lead in the top of the sixth inning with a two-run home run that was the first of her varsity career to make it 6-0.
Despite the Thunder threatening in the late innings, the Bulldogs held on for the 6-0 win.
Eickhoff not only homered, but picked up her first varsity win on the mound, allowing three hits and striking out 13 batters. Weise and Eickhoff each finished with two hits on the night.
