Rookie Robotics Team Stuns At State Championship

Spudinc, the BLHS Robotics team overcame many obstacles to place 17th in regionals and 16th at the State Championship last weekend.

There are over 200 robotics teams in the state, and to reach the state competition did not come easy.

“The tournament itself started out rough,” said Robotics Head Coach Daniel Weber. “The first match,  our polycarb guidance system for our climbing device broke in half.”

The team fixed the issue and the second match went well Weber added.

“After that we had computer issues, we had to change out two drive motors, computer program issues, climbing rope issues, and the climbing device issues,” he said.

Even after all that, Spudinc went 5-3-0 for the tournament finishing 16 out of 36.

“This rookie team did exceptional for their first season,” said Weber. “I am very proud of this team, Go 6709 Spudinc!”

“I would also like to say thank you very much to 4607 CIS Becker Robotics for all their help and mentoring this year,” added Weber.

The team also thanks their new sponsor, Big Lake Lions, for their support.
