The Becker Bulldog girls golf team played their best round of the year on the second day of Section 6AA playoffs in Sartell this week and finished third as a team. The finish was a big improvement from the team’s fourth place finish last year.
One Bulldog emerged from the Monday/Tuesday tournament to play at state and that player is senior Cheyenne Piccolo, who beat her own teammate, Macy Erson, on the second hole of a sudden death playoff to be the last individual qualifier to go to state.
“What a great team effort we have had to finish the season,” said Head Coach Steve Whittaker. “I couldn’t be prouder and am very excited for next year.”
The individuals advancing to state along with Piccolo include Rocori’s freshman Marja Sorenson, Osakis freshman Alayna Eldred (159), Kimball/Eden Valley-Watkins senior Nicole Vossen (163) and Pierz senior Jessica Hawks (168). Piccolo finished with a two-day total of 172.
Team Results:
1). St. Cloud Cathedral - 705 (Advances to state as a team); 2). Rocori - 708; 3). Becker - 726; 4). Osakis - 766.
The state meet is at the Ridges of Sand Creek in Jordan next Tuesday and Wednesday.
