Eighteen teams and 75 duffers descended upon Pebble Creek Golf Course last Thursday to take a swing at winning the annual Becker Chamber of Commerce golf tournament.
Mulligan’s Island was the theme and several golfers donned tropical and beach wear — and some even decorated their golf carts! Leis were given to each team member as well as a “swag” bag of goodies that included golf balls, tees, sunglasses, a snack and a bottle of water.
The event was a nine-hole competition on the Local 9 and each hole had a prize or contest to indulge in. Flamingos, old boats and a floaty were seen at some of the holes as well as buckets and shovels in the sand traps of another. One of the holes even featured the course’s popular Foot Golf feature where Thursday’s golfers put away their drivers and long irons and kicked a soccer ball to a hole hundreds of yards away.
The weather was far from tropical as the sun beamed down and temperatures were in the comfortable low 80s.
Amity Felton and Amy Chmielewski “manned” the sign-in table where golfers picked up and dropped off their scorecards. Drink tickets were also disbursed as well as meal tickets for the BBQ sandwich supper following the event in the main dining room.
Joe Perry provided live music from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. where he put on display his fine talents and wide range of music genres to delight the chamber golfers.
As per the theme, a prize was awarded to the foursome that had the best costumes relating to the Mulligan’s Island concept. That award went to Team Haller of Haller Real Estate where Kyle dressed up as Gilligan, Dave Anderson as the Skipper, Toni Knutson as Mary Ann and Tony Rusher as Ginger. Rusher sported a long-maned, red wig and played out the role of the sultry movie star at every opportunity throughout the day. Fun stuff!
