Netters pick up first M8 win

Last Thursday, the Becker Bulldog volleyball team hosted St. Francis and celebrated their annual “Pink Out” game by picking up its first M8 Conference win of the season, 3-2, over the Saints.

“What a great way to celebrate our pink out by getting the team’s first conference win,” said coach Patty Lindbom.

The pink out theme has become a common way that high school sports are showing solidarity with those in society who have had to battle against cancer. Against the Saints, the Bulldogs’ flashy style matched their offensive performance, as they put together their best overall team performance of the conference season.

Game scores for the evening showed the Bulldogs nabbing the win, 25-16, 22-25, 14-25, 26-24 and 15-6.

Lindbom’s team showed excellent offensive balance, as Cami Ramola led the way with 14 kills, while Evelyn Kreft contributed 12 in a .385 hitting performance.  Alexa Williams added nine kills for the Bulldogs, while Alexis Goebel had seven.

Setting up the hitters all night was Maya Wenner, who netted 34 assists and kept the offense running smoothly.

Defensively, the Bulldogs had four blocks apiece from Goebel and Kreft as the pair showed fortitude at the net all night long. Lily Dewall had 15 digs and Alexa Williams added 19.

Thunder

Monday, evening, the squad put together another nice overall effort and came away with a 3-1 win over the Zimmerman Thunder.

After falling 23-25 in the opening set, the Bulldogs came roaring back and swept the next three by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18 for the team’s second win in a row.

As a team, the Bulldogs picked up 14 ace serves and 44 kills for an overall excellent offensive effort.

Kreft and Ramola paced the hitting attack with 10 kills apiece, while Ramola added four ace serves and 11 digs.

Williams had a nice all around match, scoring seven kills and three ace serves, while Maya Wenner continued her steady performance at the setter position with 30 assists, three digs, two blocks and four kills.

Other performers included Alexis Goebel with five kills, Dewall with 10 digs, Lily Berger with five kills, Taylor Storlien with four assists and two digs, Skylee Blomquist with 10 digs and Kate Mehelich with nine digs.

Bison

Tuesday night, Becker traced the Buffalo Bison and fell behind quickly 2-0 by scores of 25-15 and 25-16. The Bulldogs battled back, however, for an exciting 28-26 win in the third game and seemed to regain some momentum.  The fourth game ended in the Bison’s favor, 25-14, and Buffalo picking up the 3-1 win.
