Molus Finishes 21st At State, “Giving It Her All”

Andrea Molus made her state appearance at the University of Minnesota for the 200 yard freestyle prelims on Thursday of last week in which she was seeded 21st with a time of 2:00.46. She knew some of the best swimmers in the state could swim the 200 below the two-minute mark (which is her best time), so her goal was to push hard and try to make the top 16 so she could swim in the finals Friday.

“She was ready to swim but still a bit nervous,” said Head Coach Tina Tamm.

This would be Molus’ final meet of her high school career and Tamm said she and her assistants told her to “leave it all in the pool”.

“She did!” said Tamm.

Molus ended her high school swimming career with a finish in 21st place (2:01.08) — giving it all she had. Her time was not good enough to qualify for the finals.

“She left us all proud of her and her accomplishments for the season,” said Tamm.  “Her goal was to get back to the state meet and she did that.”

Abbie Dolan of Visitation won the 200 freestyle with a solid 1:48.10 and set a state record with an incredible 1:47.72 in the prelims.

Swimming Banquet
This week, the swim and dive team gathered at the high school to reminisce about the season and hand out individual awards.

The team voted seventh-grader Morgan Schrader as most improved. Most dedicated went to eighth-grader Hailey Eriksson. The scholar athlete award went to senior Abby Hendrickson and the team MVP was Molus.

“Thanks to everyone who came to celebrate the successes of all the girls this season,” said Tamm.  “It was great to see all the continued improvements that happened throughout the season.”

Tamm said she knew she had some good swimmers coming into the program this year and she was glad each and every one of them shared in the success of the 2015 season.

“Thanks (to the parents) for letting us have the opportunity to work with your daughters this season,” she said. “We look forward to many seasons to come.”
