Last Saturday, five groups of Bulldog football players completed a variety of community service projects, from washing equipment, cleaning storage rooms and weight room, picking weeds, picking up trash, etc. on school and city properties.
“Our culture is promoting community service,” said Head Coach Dwight Lundeen. “We’ve held camps, participated in the Haiti races and read books to kids. I’ve always said, it isn’t always just about football. It’s about community.”
Each player had contacted sponsors (family members, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) to donate to the project. All who signed up to sponsor the players sent encouraging words to the students.
Following the work, the players met at the Becker Community Center to enjoy pizza and listen to messages from the school superintendent (Jeremy Schmidt), Becker’s Mayor (Tracy Bertram), and a Becker Officer (Chris Lindbom).
“Jeremy thanked them for their efforts Saturday and Mayor Bertram gave a talk about being involved in their communities. And Officer Lindbom talked to the kids about the decisions they are making as youngsters and the impact it has on the community they live in. It was great!”
In all, 65 kids from Lundeen’s program participated in the community service.
“While the project was a fund raiser, it was also a great opportunity for the students to contribute to their community,” said Lundeen. “Thank you to each one who supported this day.”
