The Bulldog boys tennis team captured two wins and lost one this past week to improve to 12-6 heading into their final Granite Ridge Conference meet this weekend.
Duluth 4, Becker 3
Last Friday, (Hokan) Bengtson’s boys battled hard against a great team from Duluth East, only to fall by one match at home.
“Great matches all over the court today,” said Bengtson. “We competed really well at #3 doubles, #3 singles and of course #1 singles. Those guys are getting better and continually improving.”
Duluth was 12-1 coming in to the match, so it was a good showing by Hokan’s boys.

No. 1 - Nolan Humphreys and Michael Sutherland (DE) defeated Aiden Persons and Ryan Bengston (BB), 6-0, 6-1; No. 2 - Lucas Goetzman and Dane Patten (DE) defeated Eli Scheideman and Caden Elliott (BB), 6-3, 6-2; No. 3 - Wyatt Hiltner and Isaac Boyer (BB) defeated Vinny Berarducci and Tristan Bombardieri (DE), 7-6 (5), 0-6, 10-8.
Becker 6, Aitkin 1
Tuesday, Becker hosted Aitkin and came away with a near sweep over the Gobblers.
“This was our final (head-to-head) Granite Ridge Conference match of the year,” said Becker’s head coach. “We played well at many spots and are beginning to gel as we head into playoffs.”

No. 1 - Nathan Hagestuen and James Much (AG) defeated Ryan Bengston and Aiden Persons (BB), 2-6, 6-2, 6-1; No. 2 - Caden Elliott and Eli Scheideman (BB) defeated Johnny Ryan and Seth Watts (AG), 6-4, 6-1; No. 3 - Wyatt Hiltner and Isaac Boyer (BB) defeated Payton Berg and Josh Hagestuen (AG), 6-1, 6-2.
Becker 5, Anoka 2
Becker had a great final match of the regular season at home Thursday, competing really well and playing some excellent competition from a quality Anoka team. The Tornadoes were 10-4 coming into the match after playing in a tough North Suburban conference.
Lukkarila finished the regular season undefeated at 18-0 and will most likely be the #1 seed heading into the Section 8AA Tournament next week.
