The Becker American Legion baseball team went 1-4 over the last two weeks and have one game left before playoffs begin next week. Becker 10, Zimmerman 0 Monday, Becker picked up a big shutout win over the Thunder at home with Andrew Stanger throwing a no-hitter. He allowed zero runs on zero hits while striking out nine.
Driving the offense were Clayton Gallus, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI; Stanger, who was 2-for-3; Gruenhagen, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and Blomgren, who was 2-for-4 with a homerun and three RBIs.
Monticello 3, Becker 2
Tuesday, Becker battled Monticello and held a one-run lead heading into the top of the ninth, before the Magic scored twice to pull out the victory.
Leading Becker at the plate were Gallus, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI and Jake Fobbe, who was 1-for-3-with one RBI.
Vesledahl suffered the loss, throwing the final three innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two.
Sauk Rapids 6, Becker 5
July 6 the Becker Legion baseball team lost to Suk Rapids by one run.
Leading hitters were Andrew Stanger, who went 2-for-4; Cody Gruenhagen, who went 2-for-4 with a double and triple and two RBIs; Eric Blomgren, who was 2-for-3 and John Mann, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Losing pitcher was Gruenhagen.
Sartell 7, Becker 6
The boys of summer lost by one to Sartell July 7.
Offensive leaders were Blomgren, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI; Gallus, who was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Becker’s losing pitcher was Mann, who pitched 5-2/3 innings, allowing seven runs with just one being earned.
Cold Spring 7, Becker 3
Becker took on Cold Spring July 9 and lost their third game of the week.
Leading hitters were Blomgren, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Gruenhagen, who was 2-for-3 and Casey Vesledahl, who was also 2-for-3.
Vesledahl was the losing pitcher in six innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out eight.
Becker received the sixth seed in the North End Sub State tournament which will be held in Princeton July 20-25 (play in game for seeds 7-10).
Becker will open up play Tuesday versus the #3-seeded Cambridge team at 2 p.m. in a double-elimination tournament.
The winner of that game will play Wed. at 8 p.m., while the loser will play at 2 p.m.
