Layton sets BL school mark in 1600 meters

Owen Layton set a new Big Lake school record and won two distance events at the 5AA True Team meet in ROCORI last week.

Layton topped the field in the 1600 meters and finished in a time of 4:16.95, breaking the record of 4:20.02 set by Jack Leuer last year. Layton also won the 3200 meters in 9:44.31.

Leuer won the 800 meters in 2:00.02 and finished third in the 1600 in 4:31.81.

Wuoson Nehwah set a personal best and finished second in the 300 meter hurdles in 42.84 seconds. That puts him seventh on the school’s Top 10 list. He was 11th in the 110 hurdles in 18.54.

Josh Kennedy placed fifth in the 400 meters in 52.93, with Caleb Kennedy ninth in 54.36.

Montell Hester was fifth in the 100 meters in 11.88 and seventh in the 200 in 23.74.

David Guyse took eighth in the 800 meters in a personal best 2:06.92.

Abe Nebo went 19’1” in the long jump for seventh place. He took ninth in the triple jump at 38’3.25.”

Jerry Vazquez finished eighth in the high jump at 5’6.”

Preston Wesseh was ninth in the long jump at 18’7.”

Vishnu Deonarine had the team’s longest throw in the shot put at 33’1,” his personal best.

Chaz Hughes threw the discus 84’5,” the best for the team.

The 4x200 relay team of Nehwah, Josh Kennedy, Caleb Kennedy and Hester placed second in 1:34.39.

The 4x800 relay team of Gavin Flavin, Trent Erickson, Judd Layton and David Guyse was fourth in 8:48.65.

The girls had plenty of personal bests and season’s best marks at the meet.

Leah Uphoff went 17.61 in 100 hurdles for fifth and ran a personal best of 50.24 in the 300 hurdles to finish sixth.

Alayna Boe went 8’6” in the pole vault for sixth, her personal best.

Tayla Glassman set a personal best of 46’7” to win the wheelchair discus event. She was also first in the shot put at 19’3” and second in both the 100 meters (40.12) and 200 meters (1:10.55).

Alivia Voss matched her personal best of 4’10” in the high jump to tie for seventh place.

Campbell Slattery had a personal best time of 5:50.37 in the 1600 for eighth. She ran 12:34 in the 3200 meters for ninth.

Naomi Huizenga went 31’4” for 10th in the triple jump. She set a personal best in the 800 meters in 2:45.15.

Sydney Roy set a season’s best of 29.24 seconds in the 200 meters.

Erin Kjellberg ran the 400 meters in 1:07.15, a season’s best.

Gabby Gardner set a personal best of 30’4” in the triple jump for 12th place.

Eleonora Piva went 14’1” in the long jump and 14.22 in the 100 meters for 17th in both events.

Emily Edlund had a personal best throw of 26’4.75” in shot put for 16th place. She also had the team’s best throw in the discus at 71’8” for 20th place.

The Hornets competed at Monticello Tuesday, results next week. They compete in the conference meet Wednesday at Zimmerman.
