Lakers Lose Two In Similar Fashion

The Clear Lake Lakers lost two games this past weekend, one to Sauk Rapids Saturday and the other to Sartell Sunday.

Sauk Rapids 8, Clear Lake 4
The Lakers got off on the wrong foot Saturday, giving up three runs in the first inning and four in the second to fall behind early and were never able to recover.

Hunter Mutterer started on the mound for Clear Lake and he struggled from the get-go. He did go five innings and had four strikeouts, but the defense failed him as the fielders behind him committed three errors.

Mutterer was knocked out of the game in the sixth and Mike Golembiecki came on in relief and gave up just one run.

Clear Lake’s Matt Korte collected two fo the team’s six hits and had two RBI’s.

Sartell 9, Clear Lake 3
Clear Lake fell behind the proverbial eight ball for the second straight game  Sunday as they surrendered seven runs in the first two innings to Sartell while committing four errors.

The Lakers tried mounting a comeback — again — but Sartell’s Adam Weinker kept the Lakers at bay for all eight innings, striking out 10.

Clear Lake’s Corey Schmidt pitched the first four innings and he recorded just three SO’s before handing the ball over to Mike Smith for the final four innings. Schmidt led the Lakers with two  of the team’s eight hits while  Cole Gueningsman drove in two of Clear Lake’s three runs.

The Lakers got on the board in the fourth to make the game 7-1, but Sartell responded with two more in the bottom of the inning to stretch their lead. The Lakers tallied two more inn the fifth, but were shut out the rest of the way.
